I’m calling it early – 2023 could be the year of the Tactical RPG, especially with the announcement that Redemption Reapers is launching for PC, PlayStation, and Switch on February 22.
For those who don’t know, Redemption Reapers is a new dark fantasy tactical RPG developed by an all-star collection of Japanese developers. Based on an original story by Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Producer – ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights), other members of the Adglobe team include Masayuki Horikawa (Series Director – Fire Emblem, Planning – Kingdom Hearts III), Tomokazu Fukushima (Scenario – Metal Gear Solid, Freedom Wars), and composer Rei Kondoh (Music – Bayonetta series, Fire Emblem series). When it comes to starting rosters, those are some heavy hitters from a studio that has mostly dealt as a support studio for mobile releases.
Redemption Reapers puts you in control of humanity’s last hope – the Ashen Hawk Brigade as you fight back against the Mort Army using team tactics, positioning, adn the element of surprise. Managing your units to take advantage of melee, stealth, and ranged tactics, you will upgrade each mercenary after the skirmish, and perhaps untangle the personal stories as you move throughout the game.
As someone who is currently dumping an absurd amount of hours into XCOM, I am quite interested in seeing what this team is capable of. You can wishlist the game now on Steam, or pick it up on release day via your storefront of choice.
