Failbetter Games, the narrative wizards behind Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies, and Fallen London have announced their newest foray into London-based fiction, Mask of the Rose. Taking place in the Fallen London universe that the studio has become known for, Mask of the Rose is a prequel that unfolds in 1862, right after London was taken over by bats.
Yeah, you should probably check out their back catalog to understand that statement.
Mask of the Rose is a romantic visual novel that takes artistic inspiration frm Film Noir, Victorian photography, and Blitz-era Britain. They aim to take what they created with Fallen London, and delve into a far more personal story that will explore the origins of many characters who go on to shape the events of Fallen London and beyond.
Mark of the Rose will be coming to Kickstarter in February next year, with no mention of how much Failbetter Games are looking to raise. Given the studio’s pedigree for narrative, this is definitely on my radar for next year.
