Indie Horror darlings Frictional Games has just announced a new addition to their lauded franchise, with the reveal of Amnesia: The Bunker, hitting PC, Xbox, and PlayStation on May 16.
Amnesia: The Bunker takes place during the first World War, telling the story of a lone French soldier who is left behind by his battalion, trapped inside an abandoned military bunker. Turns out it is not quite so abandoned, as a deadly creature skulks in the shadows, looking for more prey.
In true Amnesia fashion, the player will navigate the labyrinthine bunker, facing their darkest fears, hopes, dreams, and desires as protagonist Henri tries to confront their situation, and drum up a little hope to survive.
Frictional Games has a long track record of horrific winners, releasing the original Amnesia: The Dark Descent back in 2010, essentially kickstarting an entire genre. They are also the studio behind SOMA, and the Penumbra series, both of which brought unique and interesting narratives to the table.
Typically I stay away from these sorts of puzzle focused horror games, but I have been a fan of the series in the past, and Amnesia: The Bunker feels like an interesting talk in the growing anthology series. I think I may bring the covers close, and give this one a look when it hits platforms this May.
