Arcade classic Gauntlet gets a remake this summer on PC
Born in the darkest arcade corners in the 1980s, the original Gauntlet was a genre-defining arcade dungeon crawler. Now, almost 30 years later, Warner Bros. has announced a reboot coming to PC with support for SteamOS and Steam Machines this summer,”completely modernised” and refined for a new audience.
We’re looking at a complete remake of the game, but many of the old familiar features will still be present. Players will play as the Wizard, Warrior, Valkyrie, or Elf and explore procedurally generated dungeons in either single-player, or local and online co-op play.
We can thank Magicka creator Arrowhead Game Studios for developing the new Gauntlet. It will be the first game to enter the WB Games Vault portfolio, an initiative that brings downloadable games “based on popular Warner Bros. and Midway brands, plus original IP, across multiple digital networks.”
Arrowhead boss Johan Pilestedt said “Gauntlet is one of the most defining games from our childhoods, and it’s amazing to be able to work with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on a brand new version.”
“Gauntlet is one of the original and best known video game properties and we are looking forward to creating a fresh, yet true to the original, take on a multiplayer masterpiece.”
