Sony Sells 1 million Playstation 4’s on first day
Sony has sold 1 million Playstation 4’s within the first 24 hours in North America, making the PS4 it’s fastest-selling console ever. The Playstation 2 held the previous record with 1 million sales reached in 3 days, according to Yahoo Japan.
“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,” Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment said in a statement.
By the end of the year, with the European launch still to come, SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton predicts the console will have sold 3 million times. Furthermore, Sony estimates that that figure will have risen to 5 million by the close of the company’s fiscal year in March 2014, considering the fact that the console will have reached Japan by that time.
A number of hardware issues were reported by some PS4 users, including faulty HDMI output ports, boot failures and early network issues. According to Sony these problems are “isolated incidents,” limited to a very small number of consoles.
The Playstation 4 launched in North America on November 15, and will released in Europe and Australia on November 29, and Japan on February 22, 2014.
