Super Smash Bros. won’t feature cross-platform play
The new versions of Super Smash Bros. coming to the Wii U and 3DS will not feature any form of cross-platform play, as confirmed by Masahiro Sakurai, director of Sora Ltd.
Speaking to Joystiq, Sakurai stated that cross-platform mingling simply wouldn’t work, due to the fact that both versions feature completely different stages. Nintendo made a bold announcement back in 2011, stating that the 3DS version would be interactive with its console brother, which is still the case. Players will be able to take their customised characters from the 3DS version and import them into the Wii U edition. This alone makes us think that the character roster is identical.
What customisations is Sakurai talking about? He didn’t drop too many details, only to say that it won’t be costumes and it won’t be items that are unlocked through endless grinding.
Super Smash Bros. is due for release some time in 2014 on both platforms. Would you bother getting both versions? Let us know in the comments!
